Annual Show Rules

1.        Entry Forms may be handed to the Shows Secretary at the May Branch Meeting, or may be sent by post to be in the hands of the Shows Secretary by the Tuesday prior to the Show. Entry in the show constitutes acceptance of the following Rules 2-12.

2.        Exhibits may be staged either on the Friday afternoon between 2p.m. and 5.45p.m., or on the Saturday morning between 8a.m. and 10.45a.m. prompt.

3.        Judging will commence at 1l.00a.m. Judging will be open, but exhibitors are asked to vacate the relevant portion of the room.

4.        Judging will be done under the B.C.S.S. Rules; any objection must be lodged before 3p.m. on the Saturday, in writing, and must be accompanied by a deposit of £1, which will be refunded only if the objection is upheld.

5.        At the discretion of the Judge any Award may be withheld, if the number of entries (3 or less) or the quality of the plants is not considered to be up to standard in its Class.

6.        No exhibit may be removed before 5.00p.m. on the Monday.

7.        An exhibit once staged must not be substituted or altered.

8.        Pot diameter is determined by the top inside measurement, and in the case of rectangular pots the measurement is made along the longer edge. It is essential that exhibitors measure their pots as the sizes moulded or otherwise imprinted on pots have been found to be incorrect, most are too big (i.e. the pot was smaller than the stated size) but a few claim sizes significantly below the actual size and if used would result in disqualification. Although the metric-imperial conversions are not exact, the discrepancies pertaining to those contained in this Schedule are negligibly small, being in no case in excess of 2.5mm and for the most part (with exception only of the 32cm bowl and the two containing basal squares) no more than 1.6mm. Exhibitors may therefore use either system of measurement as they please, with confidence that the effective outcome would be the same the other way.

9.        An exhibitor may enter any number of exhibits in a Class, but only the best entry may qualify for Prizes and/or Points.

10.     Points will be awarded as follows: 4 Points for 1st, 3 Points for 2nd, 2 Points for 3rd, and 1 Point for H.C. (Highly Commended).

11.     All exhibits, personal property, etc. will be at the owner's risk. Neither the Branch nor the Country Park Administration accepts responsibility for damage or loss, or for personal injury, though all normal care will be taken.

12.     The Trophies are perpetual, and should be returned to the Shows Secretary during May of the following year.

 Notes

Space permitting, multiple entries are much appreciated. They will be judged according to Rule 9.

Non-competitive exhibits are also cordially invited. Such exhibits may include informative or educative material. Please inform the Shows Secretary in advance concerning the staging requirements.

Smoking is not permitted within the Hall.

All participants must keep to the area of the Hall allocated to them, i.e., to the Old Dining Room, and 'No Entry' signs must be strictly observed; (alarms are set in many parts of the Hall).

Light refreshments and full meals may be available in the Cafe by the Hall, marked C on the map. Croxteth Hall & Country Park is signposted on many of the roads shown on the map, unfortunately these signs lead you to the public car park, marked P on the map, not to the entrance to the exhibitors’ car park. Parking for exhibitors will be arranged near to the Hall (see map), and permits for this will be provided on arrival.
